Best Bars in New Orleans

From historic cocktail legends to unforgettable nights—
here’s where to grab a drink in New Orleans.

Finding the Right New Orleans Bar

New Orleans has a bar for just about every mood. You can settle into an old neighborhood bar for a quiet drink, find live music on Frenchmen Street, order a carefully made cocktail, or grab a cold beer and watch the world go by. There really isn’t one right way to enjoy a New Orleans bar.

The French Quarter has plenty of famous choices, but don’t stop there. Some of the most interesting bars are tucked into neighborhoods like the Marigny, Bywater, Mid-City and Uptown. Freret St and Oak St have some great places. These are the places where you can get away from the crowds and see where locals actually spend an evening.

And remember, New Orleans takes its drinks seriously. We’re home to classic cocktails such as the Sazerac and Ramos Gin Fizz, but you’ll also find bartenders putting their own spin on old favorites. If cocktails aren’t your thing, don’t worry. A cold beer, a frozen drink or a simple glass of wine works just fine around here.

One of the best things about New Orleans nightlife is that you don’t necessarily need a plan. Pick a neighborhood, find a place that looks interesting and see where the evening takes you. Just remember that some of the best nights in New Orleans start with the words, “Let’s have one drink.”
