Right in the heart of the French Quarter, Hotel St. Marie New Orleans gives you something visitors often want but don’t always get: a historic-feeling hotel in a great location without having to be right on the busiest part of Bourbon Street.
The hotel is at 827 Toulouse Street, just off Bourbon Street, putting you within easy walking distance of many of the places that make the French Quarter famous. Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, Royal Street, the French Market and Café du Monde are all nearby.
Hotel St. Marie New Orleans in the French Quarter
Location is probably the biggest selling point here. You can walk out of the hotel and immediately start exploring the Quarter. Head toward Bourbon Street for the nightlife, wander over to Royal Street for the shops and galleries, or make your way toward Jackson Square and the river.
And you don’t have to make the whole vacation about Bourbon Street. That’s one of the mistakes some first-time visitors make. The French Quarter is much bigger than one famous street, and staying at Hotel St. Marie New Orleans puts you in a good position to explore the whole neighborhood.
The hotel is part of the Valentino Hotel Group, a New Orleans family that has been welcoming visitors to the French Quarter for more than 60 years. The family also operates several other historic New Orleans hotels, including Place d’Armes and Prince Conti.
A Courtyard Pool in the French Quarter
One of the things I particularly like about Hotel St. Marie is the swimming pool. It’s surrounded by lush tropical courtyards with plenty of seating, giving you somewhere to get away from the busy streets for a while.
That can be a pretty valuable amenity in New Orleans, especially during the warmer months. You can spend the morning walking around the Quarter, stop for lunch, keep exploring and then come back to the hotel for a swim and a little downtime before heading back out for dinner.
The hotel also has balconies on some of its rooms. Guests can choose from rooms with streetside balconies or courtyard balconies, as well as junior suites and suites. Standard room amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, mini refrigerators, safes, coffee makers, walk-in showers and large-screen televisions.
Vacherie Restaurant and Bar
You don’t have to go far when you’re ready for something to eat. Vacherie Restaurant & Bar is located right inside the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with drinks and a coffee shop.
The restaurant takes its name from Vacherie, Louisiana, and its menu draws inspiration from Cajun cooking and the region’s food traditions. That’s a nice fit for a hotel in the French Quarter because you don’t have to leave the property to get a taste of Louisiana.
Vacherie also has options for a quick coffee or something on the go, so you’re not necessarily committing to a full restaurant meal every time you want something to eat.
Why Stay at Hotel St. Marie?
The appeal of Hotel St. Marie New Orleans really comes down to location, atmosphere and convenience.
You’re in the French Quarter, but you’re tucked onto Toulouse Street rather than sitting directly on Bourbon Street. That means you can get to the action quickly and then come back to a hotel with courtyards and a pool when you’re ready for a break.
And that’s a pretty good arrangement for a New Orleans vacation.
You can spend the morning exploring Jackson Square, walk over to the river, have lunch in the Quarter, shop along Royal Street and then head back to the hotel for some time around the pool. Later, you’re just steps from an almost endless selection of restaurants, bars and music.
For visitors who want to stay in the French Quarter, have plenty of attractions within walking distance and still have a pool and courtyard where they can relax, Hotel St. Marie is worth considering.
It’s not trying to be the biggest or fanciest hotel in New Orleans.
It’s giving you something much more useful: a comfortable home base right in the middle of the French Quarter.
