New Orleans says baby in many ways. One very popular way for some folks to say baby is the French word “cher” which means dear. The word can even mean expensive. And that word in English “dear” can mean expensive in Britain like if you remember in The Beatles song When I’m Sixty Four he sings … if it’s not too dear.” Meaning if it’s not too expensive.


So in the city some people say baby like Babee or hey baybee or even just babe. Now if you are talking about Latinos way of saying baby they might say ninyo or something like that.


The term baby or sugar or honey or dawlin’ are expressions that are used everyday in New Orleans. They express friendliness and kindness. Citizens of the city very commonly greet each other in the street even if they don’t know each other.
